How to set up a ChatGPT scheduled task

  1. Open a routine below and click Copy prompt. Use Fill in the blanks on the page to swap in your own details first.
  2. In ChatGPT, paste the prompt and say when it should run, for example "Run this every weekday at 8 AM." You can also create and manage tasks from Scheduled in ChatGPT.
  3. Check the confirmation ChatGPT shows: the time, how often it repeats, and what it will do.
  4. Turn on notifications (push, email or both) in ChatGPT's settings so you actually see the results.
  5. Run the prompt once in a normal chat before relying on the schedule, then tune it after the first few runs.

Plan limits worth knowing

According to OpenAI's help article on scheduled tasks (checked October 21, 2026), the number of active tasks depends on your plan, free accounts can run a task at most once a day in flexible windows (morning, afternoon or night), and hourly schedules and exact times need an eligible paid plan. Limits change, so check that page for the current numbers. If you are on a free plan, pick daily or weekly routines like the ones below.

Common questions

What's the difference between a prompt and a scheduled task?

A prompt runs once when you send it. A scheduled task saves the prompt and a schedule, and ChatGPT runs it again at each time you set.

Can a ChatGPT task check my email or calendar?

Only if you have connected those apps to ChatGPT and they are available to tasks on your plan. Otherwise pick routines that only need the web, like the ones above.

Do these prompts work with other agents?

Yes. They are plain text, so they also work with Grok Bot, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent and Claude. See the FAQ.
